Some of the KK Live songs I prefer over the albums and this is one of them. It has so much interpretations in expression; it feels melancholic, bittersweet, and makes you feel like you're falling for something, it feels personal. It's so simple and yet so beautiful, in a large part I believe the different key it's played in contributes to it, as well as it just being a simple guitar solo with KK singing. Feels like a song that was written for only you,,, or, in other words, Only Me!

Now everybody headcanons that this song is about a lonely birthday party, but I headcanon something…way darker. Lemme explain. Someone who was close to K.K. Slider had to move away, far away. One day, for K.K.’s birthday, they decided to send him some cupcakes. A long time passes, and the cupcakes still haven’t arrived. Eventually, they die, and the news reaches K.K. Shortly after he learns about their death, he finally receives the birthday gift: Stale Cupcakes. He wrote this song as a way to remember his lost friend/companion/whatever.
